The Cherry Pickers of Cookham Dean

The Cherry Pickers is a group of people who all live in Cookham who seek to raise money through organising a variety of community based events and then donating the money to local good causes.  Many in Cookham have been to events organised by us such as the Gravity Grand Prix and Boxing Day Games.

The group has been been running in its current form since 1976 although it does have a history going back a long time.

The Cherry Pickers have through the support of the village community been able to raise and donate an amazing £400,000 since 1976 to local good causes

Fund Raising Events For 2024

15th Sept 2024

The Cherry Pickers of Cookham Dean, organisers of the Gravity Grand Prix, have announced that they are hoping to stage the event on Sunday 11th September 2022.

In 2021, the day has directly raised nearly £21,000 for the Thames Valley Air Ambulance and other local good causes and has also created around £30,000 of food and drink trade for local businesses.

Chair of the organising team, Max Stevenson, said “A lot of people have given significant effort to get the 2021 event off the ground and we are very pleased with the result.  We were blessed with fine weather and it was clear that local people were happy to be out and about again and supported us in large numbers.  We look forward to planning next year’s event.”

The Cherry Pickers hope to get up to 30 karts to accept the “Challenge of the hill” and sign up to race down the 350m course from the junction of Church Road and Spring Lane almost as far as Uncle Tom’s Cabin.  It’s not just about speed as trophies are also awarded for kart design, amusement and build quality.
